Yay! The banana bread recipe I posted on my instagram over a month ago has finally made it to the blog! I’m guessing the fact that I already shared the recipe with you guys is what led to me procrastinating actually posting it on here, but hey, better late than never, right?!

Speaking of, this is actually my FIRST banana bread recipe on the blog! Say whaaaat? Considering how much I love banana bread, that surprised me too ;)

While we’re talking about banana bread, I want to tell you guys how my love for the delicious ‘bread’ came to be.

When I was a kid, my parents were obsessed with Starbucks Coffee. And I mean obsessed as in, they wouldn’t drink or buy any other coffee if it wasn’t Starbucks! Once in a while my younger sister and I would come along to the café, because, ya know, sometimes you just have go run errands with your parents EVEN if you’re in the middle of playing with your Playmobil 😒

My sister and I would enter the coffeeshop and would be blitzed with that oh-so-yucky coffee smell that we both absolutely could not STAND. Funny to think about it now, as the smell of fresh brewing coffee is what gets me up in the morning most days! 🤣

We would start complaining about the smell as we were waiting in line. To make up for it, my parents would allow us to choose one of the baked goods behind the glass. Of course, we didn’t mind coming along if baked goods were included!

We would almost always get the chocolate marble swirl cake, until one day, my sister suggested we try something different. So, we asked for the banana walnut bread instead. Being the PICKIEST eater as a kid, I was skeptical, but after one bite…I WAS IN LOVE!

My little sister and I loved the banana bread so much that, we would sneak out of the house during the summer and rollerskate to Starbucks by ourselves to get a couple slices of the stuff! After doing this every day for a week straight, the 10-year-old me felt SO guilty for sneaking out (and stealing money from our parent’s wallets) that we confessed to going into town by ourselves.

Both of my parents were absolutely SHOCKED, but that didn’t stop our love for the banana walnut bread! So here I am, almost 10 years later, recreating it myself. The healthy version of course!


Healthy Banana Bread (gluten-free)

  • 1 cup oat flour (certified gluten-free for allergies) (110g)

  • 1/2 cup almond flour (50g)

  • 3 tablespoons coconut flour (21g)

  • 2 tablespoons coconut sugar (20g)

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder


  • 1 cup mashed very ripe banana (about 2 large bananas) (225g)

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted (60g)

  • 1/4 cup milk of choice (I used unsweetened almond milk) (60mL)

optional, but highly recommend: sliced banana for topping, crushed nuts, and/or chocolate chips


  1. Preheat oven to 350˚F (180˚C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with coconut oil or cooking spray.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients.

  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the banana and eggs.

  4. Add the coconut oil and milk, and whisk to blend.

  5. Add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, and gently stir until combined.

  6. Pour the batter into your greased loaf pan. Add your toppings, if using. I did 1 large ripe banana sliced lengthwise + 1/4 cup crushed walnuts.

  7. Bake the banana bread in preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

  8. Let the bread cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
